Infestation Indicators
One of the most frequent pests in the pantry is the Indian meal moth. When they invade homes or business buildings here in the GTA, they may be a major annoyance. Indian meal moths often establish residence in areas of your house or place of business where grains and flour are kept. They are known as pantry pests because most people see them when they open sacks of flour or other dried food items.
How Concerned about Indian Meal Moths Should I be?
Infested products are attacked by larvae, which feed on them and render them unusable. They make silk webbing that collects moth frass and shed skins, increasing infection. Since the Indian meal moth can have 5–6 generations in a year, early diagnosis is essential.
Spotting Indian meal moths might signal the presence of an infestation nearby, requiring routine inspections of any food storage. The best indicator of their existence is the appearance of silky cocoons or webs, although this visible evidence may not always be present. Another sign of an infestation is the presence of adult larvae crawling about on surfaces, frequently close to affected goods.
